BSEC LAUNCHES A NEW BUSINESS RELATED PLAN

On June 29th, 2008 BSEC reached out to its coalition members and anyone who would listen and asked for local help in striving to save our small business community. We asked for the names of 5 of your favorite Ma & Pa locally owned businesses in the Kansas City, metropolitan region.

We said, we would compile a list of the businesses and ask each and every one of us to commit to spending money in at least 5 of those businesses a month. In just 24 hours, the list grew to over 50 businesses; we compiled them and decided to make them available to everyone (which you can find by clicking the Buy Local First section on our website menu).

We considered the list as the beginning of an effort to start a BUY LOCAL FIRST business network. We see locally owned businesses as the backbone of our countries economic survival.

BSEC is committed the BALLE network concept and eventually hope to begin a chapter in our city.

The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) is an international alliance of nearly 60 independently operated local business networks with more than 15,000 businesses dedicated to building local living economies.

BALLE envisions a sustainable global economy made up of local living economies that build long-term economic empowerment and prosperity through local business ownership, economic justice, cultural diversity, and environmental stewardship.

BALLE has stated building blocks:

Sustainable agriculture

Renewable energy

Zero-waste manufacturing

Independent retail

Green building
